Across India's poorest neighbourhoods, too many children carry bricks and bundles instead of books. At Academe India Foundation, we believe the surest way to end child labour is to put a child back in the classroom.
The Trap of Poverty
When a family cannot afford the next meal, a child's wages — however small — can feel impossible to give up. This is how the cycle of child labour begins: poverty forces children to work, work keeps them out of school, and the lack of education keeps them poor as adults.
What We Do Differently
Our approach removes the barriers one by one. We open free tuition and learning centres inside the communities we serve, provide books, uniforms and a daily mid-day meal, and counsel parents on the long-term value of education.
- Community-based learning centres close to home
- Free books, stationery, uniforms and school materials
- A nutritious daily meal that keeps children coming back
- Digital literacy so children are ready for tomorrow's jobs
When you give a child an education, you don't just change one life — you break a cycle that has trapped a family for generations.
